Akbar hit the screens in 1993 in the critically-acclaimed film Bhaji on the Beach in the role of Majit and his performance in this film resulted in him landing the lead role of “Farid” in the film My Son the Fanatic, alongside Rachel Griffiths. He also played the key character of Prince Meshal in the Oscar-award winning film, Syriana, with George Clooney, and Kanel Hanna in the hit HBO mini-series House of Saddam. Akbar has appeared in leading roles in some of Britain’s leading soap operas, dramas and situation comedies, including Mr. White Goes to Westminster, The Bill, Heat of the Sun, Second Sight, Command Approved, Esther Kahn, Lloyd & Hill, Doctors, Casualty, Front Line,Keen Eddie, Eastenders, Waking the Dead, Holby City, Beneath the Skin, Syriana, The Last Detective, Forgiven, Bonekickers, That’s for Me! He was recently seen playing Farhad Hassan, in the Fox television series “24”. In addition to his numerous film and television credits, Akbar has gained critical acclaim in the theater world, producing Baghdad Wedding and This isn’t Romance at Soho Theatre in London’s West End.
